Thunder

AIrmin Van Buuren · 29 August 2026 · 3:15

“Thunder” is built around something you can feel before you can really explain it.

The track starts with a distant melodic idea sitting behind the drums, almost like something approaching from far away. From there, the vocal stays deliberately sparse. A few images, a few words, and then the melody takes over.

At 138 BPM, this one leans into classic uplifting trance structure with a modern finish: rolling offbeat bass, bright arpeggios, wide pads, layered saws and a lead that keeps climbing without completely resolving. The breakdown stretches the tension instead of turning sentimental, and when the full beat comes back, the main theme carries the track rather than the vocal.

The lyrics work the same way. “Thunder” is there, somewhere in the distance, but I never wanted to say exactly what it represents. It could be something coming, something disappearing, a memory, a warning, or simply that feeling that something is changing before you can see it.

Sometimes the sound reaches you first.

Lyrics

Something moved beyond the distance Something turned beneath the grey All the silence started breaking But the sound was far away Thunder in the distance Somewhere in the night Something in the silence Moving out of sight Thunder in the distance Far away Somewhere beyond the silence Thunder Far away Thunder in the distance Somewhere in the night Something in the silence Moving out of sight
